14 Days Till Santa – Sprites & a Scavenger Hunt

Already halfway through our Christmas Countdown, it’s time for a little bit of fun! Our playmates today are the sprites, an ancient guide throughout human history.

Dating back to the Ancient Celts and Germanic tribes, they have made an appearance across the globe. Adopting a variety of roles, names, and associations. Dive into the world of the sprites with their scavenger hunt!

Sprites are nature spirits coming in many forms as they identify with specific elements of nature. Water sprites are commonly known as nymphs or naiads. Forest sprites are dryads and air sprites are sylphs.

They even are commonly known as fairies, this title dating back to ancient Germanic tribes. But if you travel to Japan you’ll find them as yokai. In Africa, the Yoruba tribe call sprites, orishas. While indigenous Native Americans gave the name manitaus.

Whatever their title may be, sprites have lived across the globe, aiding people through their connection with Mother Earth and Father Nature.

Connecting With the Sprites:

Since sprites reside within and dedicate themselves to the various elements of nature (air, water, earth, and fire), the best way we can connect with them is through our own personal connection with the environment. We humans are of this world. Our bodies are gifted to us by Mother Earth and sustained by all the life she and Father Nature nurture upon and within our planet.

Environmentalism can take on many forms with a variety of goals, like all things in this world there is a polarity. The lower vibration to environmentalism can be toxic, controlling, and even avoidant/condemning of other human beings. But when we tap into the higher vibration to connect with our environment we receive a plethora of gifts.

Not only do we get our body, sustenance, and support from Mother Earth, but we also discover our community and teachers. Since we all originate from the ALL of Creation, we are parts of a whole. We are interconnected, we are community, and when we choose to open our hearts, we become family. In ancient terms, this is known as: animism. The spiritual belief in the immaterial soul that resides in ALL things. That the plants and the animals, along with Mother Earth herself are alive within.

To acknowledge not only the necessity of our planet, but also that the plants and animals are ALL our Relations, we open up to a whole other experience of reality. Where the plants can not only heal us, but also impart wisdom and teach us. Did you know that people use fungi to create better roadways? Since the fungi know how to create direct and more efficient pathways, scientists create mini replicas of the area and place the fungi within the replica. Then they sit back and watch the fungus teach them the best way to travel.

Not only are we learning from the fungi, but water holds memory. Since we are made of %60 water on average, we ourselves retain memory. Memory of the land where we drink. Memory of how we’ve treated water. The list of who we learn from and how we are impacted grows with each species and area of the planet we look at.

Environmentalism takes many forms and has many levels. But where we can all start is by acknowledging our relatives. That the plants and animals hold the spark of Creation, just as our souls do. In opening up our hearts and minds, we not only reap the benefits in our quality of life, but we can also connect with another set of teachers…the sprite.

Sprites:

Throughout their journey and work with us human beings, sprites have displayed a plethora of skills and teachings. Not only do they connect with the various elements and live the in various climates of Mother Earth, but they also are here to help us.

We human beings are like the plants and the animals – members of Mother Earth. So just as the sprites work with and look after the other members, we too are guided. Their capricious and even at times mischievous demeanor can challenge us. But it is this very personality trait which makes them great teachers. Because they can teach us in fun and adventurous ways.

The Scavenger Hunt:

Keepers of arcane knowledge, teachers of wisdom, and great with secrets, the sprites invite you to play with them today.

To play all you need to do is keep an open mind and an open eye out. Invite the sprites to play with you, let them know you’ll being participating in this scavenger hunt, and then go about your day.

In response to your acceptance, the sprites will tumble into your life and leave nature related treasures for you to find…

– a feather (air sprite)
– shiny rock/crystal (earth sprite)
– pools of water (water sprite)
– laughter (fire sprite)

While this list might seem simple, I encourage you to think outside of the box today. A feather might mean a literal feather, but could also be a symbol on a logo, a word spoken over the radio, and if you’re really paying attention the shape of a cloud in the sky. Or that pool of water might be a splash from your water glass or even a puddle at your feet. Each item on this list connects with one of the four elements of nature, and is designed to get you looking at the world with fresh eyes.

The more adventurous you become, such as driving out of your way or walking the long way home or to work, are ways that you can further invite the sprites into your life. Allow their mischievous spirit to inspire you to a day of joy.

I want to wish you all luck on your scavenger hunt and thank the sprites for continuing to work with us to this day. I look forwards to seeing you guys again tomorrow!
