A new year brings with it, new energy, new plans, new hopes, and the past. When I was a child I believed the New Year to be a time of great change. From the stories shared by family and the lore our society spreads- I had a misconception over what the New Year means.
I once believed that with the gong sounding at midnight, a new world would be born. That our dreams would magically come true and the changes we desired would fall into our laps. Or that we could transform over night into the people we strive to be.
I know now that this lore is inaccurate. The truth is, that we won’t wake up a completely changed person.
The truth is this- whether we are successful in changing and growing, depends on what we did yesterday, what we do today, and what we will do tomorrow.
Rather than falling into the mistakes of social lore, I encourage you to develop a love within yourself.
- To love yourself- no matter what stage of growth you are at.
- To love yourself- enough to make the conscious decision to make changes.
- To love yourself- and create achievable and realistic goals.
- To love yourself- each day of the year.
To love yourself, because you are a special person. We all matter, and we all deserve love.
The truth is, evolution takes time. Through self-love we can honor this truth and set about building a happy life filled with healing changes today. Not because it’s New Years, but because we are worth the time and effort.
Let this be your resolution- to love yourself as you deserve. Starting today and everyday into your new future.
