Happy Saturday Chickadee! As we come to the end of another week, now is the perfect time to rest, relax, and then dive into some Christmas cheer.
No matter what holiday plans you may have, or what items are left on your to-do list, it is important to remember to listen to your body, mind, heart, and spirit. Despite how counter intuitive it may seem, a little time spent for yourself will go a long way to help you be present, pleasant, and engaged with your holiday plans and social gatherings.
While a meditation or a nice cup of hot cocoa can help you re-balance and decompress, so can a Christmas holiday or winter wonderland project.
The Power of Creativity:
Not many of us can claim to be a creative or artistic genius. Our artwork will not hang from museum walls, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a benefit to tapping into our creative side.
When we honor the artist within us, we demonstrate self-love. We are choosing to embrace ourselves, no matter the skill level.
Secondly, engaging in artistic activities helps you connect with your inner creativity. Which not only aids your mind in developing but you also trigger ideas and epiphanies in other areas of your life.
I know speaking from myself, that whenever I get stuck on of my books, engaging in a creative hobby can unclog the creativity and allow the words to flow.
Thirdly, working on a small holiday activity can be calming and healing. When we remove the false message regarding the need for mastery in all we do, we can enjoy the journey and experience for the journey’s sake.
While my drawing and painting skills resembles a child’s, I experience child-like glee, joy, and the Christmas spirit whenever I work on a holiday project.
Lastly, making an art project a family activity offers…
- Connection
- Engagement (especially for the children in the family)
- A safe and non-threatening activity
