May signifies a new wave of energies entering our environment. As a result, this month won’t look like or feel like April. While April’s collective energies brought about change through permanency and impermanency, May is all about a cleansing; a return to intrinsic truths.
This peach-colored energy acts like those bath body soaps, with little small pieces of grit to help rub the dirt and old skin away. And just like these products, we are being wiped clean, made vulnerable and exposed by this month’s energy. We are being made bare.
When we are used to the accoutrements of life, things like clothing, jewelry, even makeup and hair products – to be made bare can stir up many feelings. Not only vulnerability but also trigger a scarcity mentality. We are told by society that we need stuff. All the stuff. For our bodies, our homes, our cars, our technology, and we are inundated by this message. To be without all this stuff is seen as a sign of scarcity, poverty, weakness, or worse. Yet, we are being encouraged to strip our lives bare to the intrinsic truths of who we are and what we need.
May is a month where the energy tempers our actions. Where we must call upon the wisdom of our age as we work towards our goals and collective joys. This month’s energy lends to us this sort of “clean as you go” vibe. Rather than leaving the dirt and clutter to accumulate to the end of your month, what can you tackle each week? What are one or two things you can do each day? Like the habitual nature of a shower, we are encouraged to tidy and cleanse our lives throughout the month.
To ease our stress levels this is definitely a month rooted in the mundane of life. Things like cleaning out emails, deleting old texts and photos, even going through your closets or kitchen pantry. Ask yourself if you were building your life anew, what would you bring into it?
This question can help you reflect on what you truly need and desire. Yes there are a great many gadgets just for cooking alone – but do you need them?
A person’s worth is not anchored in what they own. The solace and happiness we seek comes not from the things but from the moments. Who we are around, what we are doing, how we feel – this builds a happy life.
Why?
May’s collective energy calls upon us to simplify our lives through a cleansing. Like stripping to the bare essentials of ourselves and rubbing away the old skin we once inhabited in the shower, this month is about stripping the non-essentials for our life. But why?
I get it. There are a great many indulgences I love having in my home. But we also feel good after a shower or slipping under the covers of a freshly washed and made bed. We know that feeling of rejuvenation. Cleaning isn’t something too horrible so, our challenge or call to arms is to remember to witness life here on Mother Earth through the lens of the Great Mystery. To not get distracted by the stuff.
Within the Native American culture, they reference the beautiful unknown of life as the Great Mystery. Those things in life we will never understand. From this element of life comes the miracles, magic, and mystery. The possibilities and the support of our Creator. It’s faith.
“I can’t help but keep reflecting upon the faith that is required, that is spoken of in my Oral Tradition. It says, “If you do things in the way in which you are directed and in the way in which you asked to do them, then those things that you need, those things that you ask for, shall come to pass.” I can’t help but try to live it that way – with faith.” ~Little Crow, Lakota Dakota Medicine Man
Pure rationality doesn’t account for the Great Mystery. As you cleanse your life there are a lot of things that are part of the old you – the old skin you once inhabited. Therefore, as you step forward in life, rub away and being willing to purge the excess. When we do this, we are taking a leap of faith.
We are choosing to believe that there are things which will fill the spaces made by our purge. That we can and have indeed transformed into a newer us. We are believing that life will continue in the days to come and that our needs will find their way to us.
So much is happening in the world right now. Much of which we don’t understand or even appreciate. But if you believe in Spirit and that you have spirit guides working on your behalf – then you’re making room for the Great Mystery in your mind. Now it’s time to make room for it in your life.
You can do this by choosing to follow the guidance gifted to us this month. To adopt this peach-colored energy of May to cleanse your life. To bring fresh renewal so that our Creator can send to us new joys. To believe that we are indeed being taken care of when we allow those who love us room to do so. Because our worth doesn’t come from what we own or even what we have accomplished. You matter. Just as you are.
