December 15th: A Moment of Being

When the clock strikes midnight on December 1st, I probable already have my Christmas lights up and running. Then, I really get started on my Christmas cheer and holiday plans.

While I love the various elements that create my holiday season, I want to remind you today about the underlying truth to Christmas.

The Underlying Truth:

In reality, we as a community and we as individuals choose this. We are the ones who go out, buy presents, hang lights, make fancy dinners or breakfasts, and hang the star on the tree.

We are also the ones responsible for our change in tone, demeaner, and attitude. We each have the choice to be one of Santa’s helpers or a member of the Bah Humbug Society.

So today in this moment you have a choice- to be merry with cheer, or sour and busy. Choose with me, in this moment to be still. Set aside the to-do list, and spend a moment being still.

Invite the Christmas spirit into your heart, call on your spiritual family to take a moment with you.

You could sit with a hot drink as you look about you, you could find a meditation on YouTube and listen to it, you could sit down with a favorite book, or merely close your eyes and listen to some Christmas music.

Whatever you decide, take this moment for yourself. Know that you matter, right now, just as you are.

Then when you’re ready, dive into Christmas.

Merry Christmas, Chickadee!
