7 days: Your Christmas Wish List

When we are young we are taught to dream. That when we grow-up, we can become any manner of adult. We can be a firefighter, a dancer, or astronaut. But when we enter high school, we are told to put those dreams away, if we haven’t already, and make plans for a “normal” life. Why be told to dream if we are blocked from those dreams?

When I first started this blog, I wrote about why we live a life based on fear. One of those reasons was- our parents. We can only teach what we know. If we don’t know how to live our dreams- we can’t teach it. I can tell you to pursue your dreams, but it has only been recently that I have been able to tell you how to pursue your dreams.

I started out writing this Christmas Countdown, because Christmas is my favorite holiday. I feel like the rest of the world acts like how I feel all year long. But what I didn’t know at the time, was the additional gifts these posts would give me. You see, each time I have sat down to write these words- I have needed to slow down and think. “What does this mean to me?”

I want to write something I am proud of. I have planned and thought, and researched, and thought some more. Each time I have thought I have unearthed more about myself and more about the holiday that I love. This post is no exception.

I started out wanting to talk about the ephemeral gifts we can desire- like peace, happiness, wisdom. But I didn’t know how to go about it, so I thought and I researched and I thought some more, and here I am typing away.

I want to help you dream bigger and think broader. I want to help you expand your sights until your dreams not only have a chance to be heard but can be pursued too.

So, this is my challenge to you- listen to your inner self.

Step one- Start small.

Each year at Christmas time we give and receive gifts. These can come from family, from friends, and even from ourselves. They can consist of gift cards, trinkets, tools, or anything else that can be made. So, what do you want for Christmas?

Step two- go deeper.

New Years is known as the time for plans and goals. That we might start the new year with a new energy and zest for life that means we’ll make changes to bring our happiness right to our doorstep. I challenge you to start now. What are your goals? They can be qualities (like being kinder, happier, or assertive) or they can be realities in your life (like dream jobs, healthy families, or healthy selves). What are your goals?

Step three- shine light

Carl Jung, a psychologist, helped bring to light this idea that we all have Shadow Self’s. These parts of us that are the rejected or feared parts of ourselves. They can be rejected because others have mocked them, we were taught they were bad, or we think that these qualities keep us from the life and people we want. Part of the journey you take as you find Your Path of Happiness, is to love all of yourself.

This Christmas season as you choose to make changes in your reality- shine light on the fears you hide and let them speak. What do you fear? As you journey in life would you like to challenge these fears until they lay down and let you pass?

This post is huge because what I’m talking about is your dreams, your faith, and your hope. These are extremely precious items in your life. So precious that you might not feel safe enough yet to give them a voice. To let them see the light of day.

To that end, I want to leave you today with this parting thought- we do not walk this path alone. Help is always available when we ask. The reality of your life is determined by you. If you wish to pursue your dreams- change your reality. Ask for help along the way- and stay open to all the possibilities the Universe has in-store for you.
